Guest technician Posted February 5, 2005 Report Posted February 5, 2005 hi guys hope you are all well. i have just discovered an oil leak it appears to be coming from just behind the the crankshaft pulley.when stationary the leak stops, but when engine is running the leak is continuousnot bad but enough to make the lower part of the sump and the adjacent area obviously damp with oil. i suspect its the crankshaft seal, what id like to know from you guys is. can it be fixed at home or is it a dealer/mechanic job if so do you know whats involved. thanks to all. mike ford galaxy 2.0i 1996 130.000 miles and still going very well...... seatkid Posted February 6, 2005 Report Posted February 6, 2005 i suspect its the crankshaft seal, what id like to know from you guys is. can it be fixed at home or is it a dealer/mechanic job yeah, crankshaft seal, requires special puller tools etc, to remove crankshaft damper. Seal is part of lower timing chain cover assy which needs to be replaced as a whole. Done with engine in car, but you need a pit and those special tools. Best left to a (ford) garage.... Quote

Horatio Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 OK, my 2.3 DOHC Galaxy's lower timing chain cover has also developed a leak. It looks corroded and is actually broken close to where one of the bolts fits. It's a ford only part and costs Quote
